ARTIST STATEMENT

SWAPNA NAMBOODIRI

My practice explores material transformation as a language of care, resilience, and sustainability. I work with a diverse range of materials—discarded plastics, reclaimed paper, fabric, yarn, and wood. Materials that are often overlooked or undervalued are carefully intertwined, layered, and reassembled through slow and hand-led processes to create tactile surfaces that speak of time, labour, and intention.

Repetition and process are central to my work. The act of cutting, wrapping, binding, and assembling becomes meditative, echoing cycles of repair, adaptation, and persistence found in both nature and human experience.

Sustainability in my practice is not only material but philosophical: it is embedded in slowness, reuse, and the belief that transformation is possible through care.

At its core, my work is an act of reimagining—where discarded and reclaimed materials are given renewed presence and purpose. By creating works that balance fragility and strength, I invite viewers to pause, reflect, and reconsider their relationship with consumption, responsibility, and hope for repair.
