ARTIST STATEMENT

NATALIE HAMBLIN

As a nationally award-winning designer, I've had the privilege of pioneering a unique fusion of fashion and environmental sustainability. With over 20 years of experience in art education, I've dedicated my career to transforming repurposed household waste and upcycled clothing into bespoke, one-of-a-kind garments that are both glamorous and striking. My work challenges traditional notions of beauty while highlighting the potential of discarded materials, serving as a powerful commentary on sustainability and encouraging a rethink of consumption and waste.

Growing up, I've always been driven by a passion for creativity and environmental activism. My journey into sustainable design was a natural progression, fuelled by a desire to turn waste into wearable art. I began experimenting with repurposing household waste, discarded textiles, and upcycled clothing, and soon discovered a new language of creativity and expression. My signature style is a testament to the beauty that can be found in the unexpected – a fusion of art, fashion, and environmentalism that inspires others to see the world in a new light.

My work is not just about aesthetics; it's about sparking a conversation about the impact of our consumption habits on the environment. By using discarded materials to create stunning, high-fashion garments, I aim to challenge traditional notions of beauty and encourage a more conscious approach to fashion. My designs are not just statements of style, but also a call to action – a reminder that even the most discarded materials can be transformed into something extraordinary.

Ultimately, my work is a celebration of the beauty that can be found in the unexpected – a testament to the power of creativity, innovation, and environmental activism. By transforming waste into wearable art, I'm not just creating stunning garments; I'm challenging the status quo and inspiring a more conscious approach to fashion, one piece at a time.
